Although electric pump installations had already taken over the function of the water tower, there was still another major challenge: Bringing the 26-metre high building back to its essence and stopping further decay of the concrete construction. The water tower has an open concrete skeleton, a rather deviating shape, and typical features such as a thin steel balustrade and a narrow ladder. It is therefore a distinctive building in the otherwise predominantly medieval structure of Vianen.
