Optimising the available space of this building, a small shop with offices above it, has created more retail space, and ultimately an entirely new shop. The biggest gain lay in creating a second storey by clearing the building of unused, pre-existing mezzanine levels.
The creative and constructive possibilities of this six-storey building, located on the busy Leidsestraat in Amsterdam, were limited by the small, narrow floor plan. The retail space on the ground floor has not only been expanded, it has also become more unified by moving the stairs with lift. As a result, there was also room for private entrances to the offices above. VOCUS organised the entire process, from the design to the permits.
